Aurora Lumis Animal Wellness

Previously known as The Paw Spa, our business was affected by the Northwood Plaza fire. In the aftermath, rebuilding became more than a return to what we had before—it became an opportunity to create something new.

Finding a permanent location in Prince George allowed us to expand our vision and offer a broader range of care under a name that reflects this next chapter: Aurora Lumis Animal Wellness.

Aurora means “dawn,” symbolizing new beginnings and the hope that follows a difficult transition. Lumis evokes light, reflecting both the warmth and comfort we want every pet to experience and my decision to train in pet light therapy.

Aurora Lumis Animal Wellness is therefore both a continuation and a new beginning: it carries forward the trusted, individualized care that began with The Paw Spa while creating space for more services, more support, and a brighter future for pets and their families in Prince George.

We started Aurora Lumis Animal Wellness to make pet care better for the care team, clients, & pets.

Our 4 pillars of better pet care

01. Calm, low-stress pet experiences

We work with your dog’s comfort level, allowing breaks and adjustments when needed.

02. Professional standards

Our staff have completed extensive training to ensure they use the best techniques for each dog and are committed to continuing education.

03. Long-term client relationships

We encourage long-term relationships with a regular grooming schedule so your dog has an easier time each visit. We recommend recurring appointments every 6-8 weeks! Plus, we offer discounts for pre-booking!

04. Client education

We educate our clients on home maintenance between appointments so that you and your dogs are happier!

Meet The Team

Alex Martin

Before becoming a dog groomer, Alex worked in the restaurant and pub industry, as well as hair and beauty. When the pandemic changed her ability to work in those fields, I decided it was time for a new direction.

Dog grooming caught her attention, but she never imagined it would become a career she would enjoy so much. More than four years later, she still finds joy in spending her days caring for dogs.

She’s currently working towards certification as a pet photobiomodulation and photopuncture therapist, preparing to bring pet light therapy to Aurora Lumis Animal Wellness. She looks forward to continuing to learn and expanding the care she can offer her furry clients.

Shaya

Shaya has been part of our team since fall 2024, working as a dog bather and managing our social media. She’s now taking the next step in her grooming career and will begin welcoming her own grooming clients in early 2027.

Shaya looks forward to building lasting relationships with her furry clients and their paw parents. Dogs have been a huge part of her life since she was 18, and over the years, she’s had the chance to explore so many different sides of the dog world, from training to kennel and daycare management, vet med, working in grooming salons as a bather to enjoying the fun and excitement of dog sports with her own dogs. She truly loves what she does and getting to know each dog’s unique personality!

When she’s not at the shop, life is just as busy at home on our little farm with her three girls and four dogs.

🐾 Fun fact: She loves trying to guess the breed mixes of the dogs that come into the shop — and she’s usually pretty good at figuring out what’s in the mix!
